Experience
Work at a glance: - 12 years as a nanny, child care provider with child development training - Worked with academically gifted middle schoolers at Duke TIP - Taught dance to children and adults - English language spokesperson for NGO (see hobby section) - Experience in unpaid advising on academic papers and publications My educational areas of interest are: - TOEFL prep - English as a second language (general) kids and adults - English for 1st - 8th grade levels - Reading and advising on essays and papers, early childhood - professional levels Background: I spent 12 years as a nanny, during which time I helped with basic tutoring and education. Being in childcare taught me a lot about child development and education, and it was an amazing experience to see how each child's unique personality manifests so early and so individually. I believe everyone learns in different ways, and kids who have a certain learning style often become frustrated with subjects that they might otherwise enjoy. In my spare time here in Sweden, I proof read my friends' essays and some of my professors' publications, which is how I realized that I love teaching English as a second language! I was also a camp counselor at Duke University's TIP program for academically gifted middle schoolers. I graduated from my English two-year degree with a 4.0, and currently hold a roughly 3.8 equivalent. The thing most people in my degree didn't know about me, however, was that I was a very late reader. English was a frustrating, tedious subject for me for a long time. Now, I love English composition and literature, with a particular love for American literature classics. I would love to help children get over their fears of reading and grammar and achieve their goals in English. I believe my own experiences with the subject help me to remain understanding and patient with children of all learning levels. Another passion of mine is working with non-native speakers, developing their technical skills and confidence.

Hobbies
I love dance, and I used to be a Lindy Hop competitor and teacher - think swing dancing, but older. I am also learning intermediate/advanced Swedish and beginning Arabic, and trying desperately to hang on to my old American Sign Language training. I like to be involved with community organizing and non-profit work, and I was recently hired as an English language spokesperson for a Human Rights MENA region monitor based out of Geneva. I have to admit as a full-time student, I consider Netflix a kind of hobby! But I try and maintain a healthy leisure-study balance.
